Empty LPG gas cylinder price in Pakistan: deposit, new cylinder and used
The gas price is set by OGRA, but the cylinder itself is not. Here is what an empty LPG cylinder costs by size and type, how a deposit differs from buying, what the big companies charge for a new cylinder, and what to check before buying a used one.
Quick answer
An empty 11.8 kg domestic steel cylinder costs about Rs 7,000–Rs 11,000 (or the same as a deposit), plus the gas, Rs 3,470 at the November 2026 OGRA rate. A 45.4 kg commercial cylinder is about Rs 19,000–25,000. Composite cylinders cost more than steel.

Deposit or buy?
- Deposit: you pay once, you can get it back when you return the cylinder in acceptable condition. Best for most homes.
- Purchase: the cylinder is yours. Useful if you keep spares, but exchanges can be harder with another company's cylinder.
- Exchange: hand over an eligible empty and pay only for the gas. The cheapest way if you already have a cylinder.
Buying a used cylinder (OLX and shops)
- Read the embossed next test date; do not buy a cylinder past it
- Check the maker's name, serial number and tare weight are stamped and readable
- Refuse deep dents, bulges, fire marks or heavy rust, especially at the base and around the valve
- Make sure the valve turns smoothly and has its O-ring
- Refill only through an OGRA-licensed company, never by decanting at a shop

Frequently asked questions
What is the price of an empty LPG gas cylinder in Pakistan?
As a guide (November 2026): about Rs 7,000–Rs 11,000 for an 11.8 kg domestic steel cylinder, Rs 3,500–5,500 for 5 kg, Rs 19,000–25,000 for a 45.4 kg commercial cylinder and Rs 10,000–13,000 for a 10 kg composite. SSGC LPG's own shop priced a new 11.8 kg cylinder at about Rs 10,256–10,500 over the gas.
Should I pay a deposit or buy the cylinder?
A deposit can be refunded when you return the cylinder in acceptable condition; a purchase cannot. A deposit suits most homes; buying suits people who move between suppliers or keep spare cylinders. Ask which one a quote is.
What does a new LPG connection cost in total?
For an 11.8 kg home connection: cylinder or deposit Rs 7,000–Rs 11,000, first gas Rs 3,470 (November 2026), regulator Rs 500–3,500, hose Rs 300–1,600 and fitting Rs 500–2,000. Roughly Rs 11,800–21,900 before a stove and delivery.
Is it safe to buy a used cylinder on OLX?
Be careful. You cannot see inside it, you may not be able to exchange it, and it may be past its test date or not from a licensed filler. Check the embossed test date, the maker's name and serial number, dents and rust, and refill only through a licensed company.
Why is a composite cylinder more expensive?
Composite (fibre) cylinders are made of a wound fibre shell with a liner. They are lighter, do not rust and show the gas level, but cost more to make than steel. The gas inside costs the same per kg.
Can I get my cylinder deposit back?
Usually, if you return the cylinder you were given, in acceptable condition, with the receipt. Terms vary by company, so keep your receipt and ask before you pay.
